When you think of healers, you may think of doctors and nurses. You will likely include alternative medicine practitioners, like naturopaths, chiropractors, reflexologists and acupuncturists. You may also think about those helping you take care of your mental health, like psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, social workers and life coaches.

Thinking about your body, you may add your health coach, dietitian and even your personal trainer to the list. You will likely think about some spiritual healers too, like reiki masters, theta healers, intuitive healers, angel card readers, past life regression therapists and so on.

When I think of healers, I think of everyone around me. I think of YOU as a healer – regardless if your profession is related to health and healing or not.

You are a healer if you care about others.

You are a healer if you are a good friend with a listening ear and loving heart.

You are a healer if you are a loving parent or a loving child of someone, doing your best to help him/her live his/her happiest and healthiest life.

You are a healer if you recycle, eat organic, shop local and bring your own bag to the store, because you are a helping with the health of the planet through these simple environmentalist actions.

You are a healer if you have a desire to reduce suffering in the planet.

You are a healer if you smile, because smiles are contagious and create a ripple effect of happiness and joy.

You are a healer in your own, special way.

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be a finished project. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to change your profession.

As you are – YOU are a healer of some kind.

I invite you to tap into the healer within so that you can do your part in helping the world evolve in your own unique way. Here are 10 ways you can begin to do just that…

1. Stop judging.

We live in a world where everything is about comparisons. Since childhood, you were told that things were either ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ You compared your performance to your peers and maybe that hasn’t changed.

But when you stop judging and accept people and things as they are, you begin healing the world and those around you. Others are not better or worse, just different – it can be quite beautiful.

2. Practice compassion.

When you open your heart to the world, you will experience the world differently. With an open heart, you can feel compassion towards everyone, without judgment, even those who might have harmed you.

Hurt people are the people who hurt others. If someone has been hurting you, it is possible that he/she has been hurt too. Being compassionate about his/her pain will help you heal and will help him/her heal too. This compassion leads to forgiveness and unconditional love, which are both essential to healing and happiness. It doesn’t mean you should accept being treated poorly, but changing how you choose to feel about the situation can have a big impact all around.

3. Be present.

Yesterday is over. Tomorrow hasn’t happened yet. Holding anger and sadness from the past only hurts you. Worrying about the future keeps you from happiness in the now. When you are able to be in the present moment, you are not only able to experience happiness yourself, but you are able to be present for others. Being present for others gives space and opportunity for healing.

4. Make eye contact.

During your day, you meet many people. If you live in a city, you pass thousands of them in a day. Yet, you likely are one of the many who rarely make eye contact. But the eyes are the window to the soul. When you make eye contact, you not only witness something special about that person, but allow him/her to witness YOU in an authentic and vulnerable way. A kind look and loving eye contact can be incredibly healing.

5. Practice random acts of kindness.

With a constant go-go lifestyle, you may fail to look for ways to give love. But you don’t have to wait for Christmas to show your love to your friends and family. With random acts of kindness, you can even express love and kindness to strangers. Give money to musicians on the street. Buy a coffee for the person next in line. Pay it forward. Generosity heals others as it creates feelings of being loved and cared for.

6. Offer hope.

Society is dealing with chronic hopelessness, helplessness and unhappiness. I am sure that you have felt hopeless, helpless and unhappy at one point or another in your life. In these deep, desperate moments, any hope is helpful.

Share your story about how you’ve overcome something. Share an inspiring quote. Give a hug. Be hopeful yourself so that others can mirror your hope. Hope is the first step towards healing and it’s absolutely necessary .

7. Hug someone.

Touch is so healing, yet as a society, we are suffering from touch deficiency and are afraid to touch each other. Participate in a Free Hugs Campaign. It is powerful – as a Free Hugger, I can tell you about all the smiles I’ve received after a simple act. Put your hands on and around others as a sign of comfort and care. Caress your loved ones. Hold them tightly. Your touch can be powerful and healing; don’t underestimate it.

8. Connect with others.

Humans are social in nature. We crave connection. Yet, working so many hours a week, you lose time and forget to connect. Host a family dinner or a party. Invite friends over. Or just simply join a community group and interact with others. Human connection is healing.

9. Listen.

I am sure there were times in your life when you’ve felt lonely, unheard or misunderstood. So many of us feel this way. Listening is not about judging, giving advice or solving problems. Listening is giving space, paying attention with an open heart, allowing a field for expression and witnessing someone’s truth. This simple act of listening with unconditional love facilitates healing on a high level.

10. Awaken your consciousness.

Grow. Be open to change. When you make a shift from an ego-driven life to a soul-driven one, you will raise your vibration. By raising your vibration, you elevate the vibration of the whole planet.

Make a commitment to yourself, to your personal and spiritual growth and to your own healing. Be willing to let go of old stuff that doesn’t serve you. Be willing to listen to your heart and intuition. Be willing to live your soul’s purpose. When you lead your life from the heart, you will radiate positive energy. Your positive energy will ultimately help heal the world.

Do you have any other thoughts or tips to become a healer in your own unique way? How are you helping to heal the world?
