Written by: Kat Gal

My husband and I don’t prefer the term “date.” We like to spend time together, connect and explore new things regularly without the label. Yet, society would call our movie nights, cooking adventures, trips and creative explorations, dates.

Whether you call it a date or not, it is important to get out of your daily routine regularly and spend good quality time together even if you’ve been a couple for a long time.

Dates allow you:

  • To show and to experience your love for each other
  • Keep the spark alive in your relationship
  • Connect on a deeper level
  • Show your commitment
  • Have fun
  • Show your love and care for each other
  • Take a break from doing and start experiencing
  • Experience something new together
  • Make memories
  • Grow together
  • Keep your relationship a priority

If you are busy, it is best to schedule dates on your calendar so that you can stick to it without forgetting about it.

Here are 50 awesome date ideas to try!

1. Make dinner together. Set up the table nicely, light candles and savor every moment.

2. Go for a long bike ride together. Go slow and explore your surroundings.

3. Play tourist in your own neighbourhood. Take fun pictures.

4. Go for a picnic. Pack healthy, organic whole foods and raw desserts.

5. Have a picnic indoors on your living room floor. This is a great idea in the winter time.

6. Go to the movies. Take your own healthy snacks.

7. Make a vision board together. It is a fun way to manifest your future together.

8. Read a book together. It is a quiet date, but you will still connect energetically.

9. Visit an animal shelter. You don’t have to adopt a pet to play with some puppies or kittens.

10. Volunteer at an event or at a food drive. Connecting while giving back is a beautiful way to experience love.

11. Go for a weekend get-away. If money is tight, stay at a hostel or couchsurf.

12. Make art together. You don’t have to be an artist to play with some colors.

13. Take fun photos of each other. Get creative, it can be a hilarious activity.

14. Go to the theater, the opera, or a ballet. Get dressed up and enjoy the show.

15. Go bowling. This is a classic, but one of the best times.

16. Try a new sport together. Wall-climbing, squash, or martial arts, anyone?

17. Go to a concert. I am partial to this one, because my romance with my husband began at a show.

18. Go to a paint and wine bar. You will actually feel like an artist.

19. Cook or bake something together. Find a new recipe and explore together.

20. Cook for each other. Take turns each week and surprise each other.

21. Have breakfast in bed. Then of course, stay in and cuddle for a while.

22. Play a board game. Oh, to be a kid again!

23. Take a dance class together. Don’t be afraid to step on each other’s’ toes, it’s part of the learning process.

24. Go bird watching. Exploring nature in the early morning is a unique experience.

25. Watch the sunset together. List reasons why you love each other and count your blessings as the sun goes down.

26. Watch the sunrise together. This calls for an early morning, but is completely worth it.

27. Go for a hike. Exploring nature together allows opportunity for connecting with each other and the entire universe at the same time.

28. Meditate together. Meditation is a unique way to connect while being present.

29. Take a brewery or winery tour. You don’t have to be a drinker at all to enjoy these tours. I don’t drink ever, but I still love the fun nature and the learning process.

30. Take a class together. Pick anything – language, art, cooking, writing, history etc. – but connect through learning something new.

31. Do a ropes course. There is no better way to develop trust.

32. Wander a bookstore or a library. Digital books may be convenient, but can never replace the real thing. Show each other your finds.

33. Go to the grocery store or the farmers market together. Exploring new foods together is fun: read labels and swap ideas.

34. Go to an art gallery. Admire the artwork while holding hands.

35. Make a bucket list together. List your goals and dreams and hang them somewhere visible.

36. Do a mud run or color run together. Don’t be afraid to get dirty and silly.

37. Play a childhood game. Share your favorite games from your time as kids.

38. Play a card game. Don’t get too competitive, just have fun.

39. Get a couples massage together. It is a relaxing experience, trust me.

40. Watch the stars. Try to notice as many constellations as possible.

41. Go for a (small) road trip and take the scenic route. Make frequent stops for kisses and photos.

42. Play with disposable cameras. Turn back time, turn off your phone or digital cameras and take pictures with film, then laugh at the results.

43. Take a carriage ride. This is cheesy, but classic and romantic.

44. Give each other massages. This is free, but romantic and relaxing. Do this often.

45. Explore a flea market or some garage sales. Some of the finds will make you laugh.

46. Go fruit picking. Apple picking or other fruit picking is a joyful activity in nature and an opportunity to stock up on delicious goodies.

47. Write poetry together. Write every first line and allow your partner to write every second one.

48. Do some doorbell ditching with yummy (healthy) treats together for friends and neighbors.

49. Redecorate one or more of the rooms in your home together. Change up some of the furniture positions.

50. Be lazy and stay in all day. There is nothing better than staying cozy, connecting and smiling together.

6 Daily Self-Care Rituals For Highly Sensitive People

Written by: Lindsay Sibson

First of all, if you *sometimes* cry during a commercial… you are not alone (and I’m not just referring to that Sarah McGlaughlin one). I’ve cried too.

Note: Do NOT click that link unless you want to shed a tear – seriously.

Being a “highly sensitive person” is much more than just shedding a tear at the drop of a hat. It also has to do with your senses and how you interact with the world.

You may be a highly sensitive person if:

  • Large crowds, strong smells, or people in general get “under your skin.”
  • You get overwhelmed with the demands of daily life.
  • You feel like you don’t know how to manage it all.

Being sensitive is something you’re born with. Just like you have blue eyes or brown hair, being a highly sensitive person is not necessarily something you choose. It has to do with your nervous system.

Highly sensitive people, which make up about 20 percent of the world’s population, have finely tuned nervous systems. This means that if you are highly sensitive, you feel things more strongly, can feel and read other people’s energy, can anticipate when something will happen (before it does) and also get hurt easily.

So THIS explains why I can smell cigarette smoke from the person driving 3 cars in front of me! Ah-ha!

If you are highly sensitive, an effective way to avoid becoming overwhelmed is SELF-CARE.

Here Are 6 Daily Self-Care Rituals For Highly Sensitive People:

Grounding
  • A simple practice that involves connecting your body with the Earth in whatever way makes sense for you.
    • Lying on the ground in the grass and meditating for 10 minutes.
    • Walking barefoot in the grass.
    • Taking a walk in nature.
    • Floating in water (ocean, lake, river, etc.).
Yoga
  • Naturally relaxing and energy-releasing.
  • Assists in releasing emotions and energy stored in your muscles.
  • Can help quiet the voices in your head and prepare you for sleep.
Massage Or Acupuncture
  • Releases toxins from your body, which promotes relaxation.
  • Acupuncture triggers your nervous system to send serotonin to your brain – instant relaxation!
Journaling
  • Too many thoughts trapped in your head? WRITE them down.
  • Journaling can help you make sense of your feelings.
  • Simply put a pen to paper and start writing about how you feel.
Dry Brushing
  • Helps remove dead skin cells and detoxifies your internal organs.
  • Use a natural bristle brush and starting at your feet, use circular motions as you work your way up your whole body, including your face.
  • Gets fresh blood-flow moving to your heart.
  • Can help you feel more energized and invigorated.
Salt Baths
  • Place Epsom salts in a hot bath and soak for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Your body receives restorative benefits from soaking.
  • Allows you to make time for yourself to reflect on your day and relax.

Aaaaaahhhh, I feel better already! Now it’s just a matter of deciding which one to implement first. I think I’ll go for the bath. What about you?

We would love to hear what self-care rituals work for YOU. Please SHARE in the comment section below and then send this article to your family and friends, especially those who you know are sensitive people.

The Amazing Healing Power Of Cat Purrs

Get the mp3/podcast of this episode free on iTunes.

3-2-1

Written by: Kat Gal

I am 32 years old and while my friends are either having or hoping to have children soon, I have no interest in that. What I really want is a furbaby – otherwise known as a CAT.

Yep, I am a cat-crazy girl named Kat.

Unfortunately, I have never had a cat… my mother never allowed it when I was a child and as an adult, it simply hasn’t fit with my nomadic lifestyle. But the time has come: 2016 will be the year of the cat for me.

Why do I want a cat?

Because cats are the coolest (don’t even argue on that with me!) and the best pet to have! Here’s why:

  • Cats are low maintenance. You don’t have take them out for walks, like you need to do with dogs.
  • They are independent. They even take care of their bathroom business alone.
  • They are full of love. And cats don’t just love you because you are ‘their human,’ but because they also love you for YOU.
  • They are smart and full of personality.
  • They are cute. Don’t believe me? Go watch some cat videos, NOW!

What is even more interesting is that cats have healing powers – or rather, their purrs do.

A Brief History Of Cats

I am not the first one in history who has an appreciation for cats. In fact, the strong bond between cats and humans dates back for as long as history can remember.

  • The oldest remains of a young wild cat buried with a human was found in Cyprus. The remains are about 9,500 years old.
  • In Ancient Egypt, cats were loved and worshiped. Their goddess of war and protection, Bastet, is a woman with the head of a cat. Beyond Egypt, cats were loved around the whole world among many cultures.
  • Chinese farmers worshiped Li-Shou, the Chinese cat god for protecting their crops from mice and rats. The Polish cat god, Ovinnik, was believed to chase away evil spirits. Ai-apaec was the name of the Peruvian cat god. Ceridwen, a Welsh goddess, was attended by white cats to help her in the human world.

Now let’s leave history alone and forget about personal preferences of pets for now. Let’s look at the real science behind the healing powers of cats.

The Healing Power Of A Cat’s Purr

A recent study found a cats purr to be medically therapeutic when in the range of 25 – 150 Hz. People who own cats also seem to have suffer less from health conditions, get better sleep and are 40% less likely to have a heart attack, simply because cats that are loved and being cared for help their ‘human’ to relax.

Cat purr vibrations can help you with:

  • Pain relief
  • Wound recovery
  • Muscle growth
  • Muscle repair
  • Tendon repair
  • Bone recovery and growth
  • Joint mobility
  • Dyspnea
  • Shortness of breath

What If You Are Allergic To Cats?

There are hypoallergenic cat breeds you can consider, including:

  • Balinese-Javanese
  • Cornish Rex
  • Devon Rex
  • Siberian
  • Sphynx
  • Bengal
  • Burmese
  • Siamese
  • Russian Blue
  • Ocicat
  • Oriental Shorthair

If you are looking to get a cat, make sure to go to the Humane Society or look around your community for kittens that need a good home. Remember that, while cats are sweet and are apparently good for your health, they are also a big responsibility. Make sure you have the right environment, time and love for them.

Are you a cat person? Do you have a cat? Tell us about him or her! Better yet, show us a picture – we would love to see your fur-babies. Share with us in the comments below!

10 Benefits Of Kissing: Backed By Chemistry

Get the mp3/podcast of this episode free on iTunes.

3-2-1

Written by: Kat Gal

My first kiss with my husband – then boyfriend – was much anticipated on a winter day over 8 years ago. Needless to say, many kisses have followed since.

Our first as husband and wife was to seal our love and our commitment to each other. We have a picture, but the memory in our hearts is what keeps it safe forever.

Our last kiss was a sweet, loving exchange maybe an hour ago while cleaning up the dishes together after dinner.

Our next kiss is still a mystery, but I am sure I won’t have to wait too long.

Kissing is a beautiful and enjoyable exchange between two people. It is a measure of your feelings, an expression of your love, attraction and passion for each other. Kissing is not only loving, fun and exciting, but it is also a powerful mood booster, helping your self-esteem and confidence skyrocket.

The release of oxytocin peptides and serotonin in your body can make you feel high on life – or shall we say, high on love.

Kissing really is one of the most powerful natural drugs out there. Here are 10 magical benefits of kissing and why it feels so amazing.

1. Kissing is a physical pain reliever. When you feel good, you feel less pain. But there is science behind this. Kissing increases your body’s threshold for pain-receptor activation and also helps the release of endorphins from your brain. Endorphins are pain-relieving happy hormones; they hinder pain pathways, thus providing you with instant pain relief.

Kissing may be beneficial for those who suffer from chronic pain due to autoimmune disorders or malignant cancer. From personal experience, I can say that kissing has helped me decrease headache pain.

2. Kissing may lower your blood pressure. When you are kissing, your blood vessels dilate and may cause a decrease in blood pressure, providing pain relief and lowering stress levels. If you are dealing with hypertension or if it runs in your family, more kissing is on your personal prescription.

3. Kissing can improve your heart health. Kissing not only expresses your loving feelings coming from your heart, but may also cause a decrease in the sympathetic tone of it. As a result, it reduces physical and psychological stress that may lead to heart issues.

4. Kissing can boost your immunity and help with your allergies. Kissing doesn’t only keep you active, but also increases the activity of your immune cells to fight germs through the production of IgA antibodies. Kissing can lower IgE antibodies, therefore lowering the release of histamine from mast cells that are the reason for your allergic reactions.

5. Kissing improves oral hygiene. By boosting salivation, kissing leads to the release of enzymes that clean up plaque that could otherwise lead to cavities and decay in the future. If you keep on kissing (and brushing your teeth, of course!), your dentist will be proud.

6. Kissing improves your mood and decreases your stress levels. When you are kissing, your brain feels like it’s on some good drugs as a result of the release of dopamine and serotonin, your brain’s favorite mood elevating hormones.

Kissing releases oxytocin and endorphins as well. Oxytocin can increase the romantic bond between you and your kissing mate, while endorphins can calm you down. Furthermore, adrenaline (a stress hormone) production will decrease, making you feel even more calm. No wonder kissing can make you feel so good, loved, happy and confident.

7. Kissing may relieve menstrual cramps. Ladies, this one is for us. Remember your endorphins? They inhibit pain. Because kissing releases endorphins and also leads to blood vessel dilation, your cramps can lighten up. Now you have science to back you up when you need some extra gentle loving during that time of the month.

8. Kissing may relieve migraines and headaches. As I have shared in point #1, it works. Because your blood vessels dilate and all the happy hormones (dopamine, serotonin and endorphins) are being released during kissing, your headaches may decrease or even disappear. No more tylenol, sumatriptans, or other drugs: all you need is a good old kissing session.

9. Kissing can improve the tone of your facial muscles. Kissing involves all of your 34 facial and 112 postural muscles. It is kind of like a facial workout that can increase the tone of your muscles, leading to more effective communication through showing the right facial expression in every situation. Kissing may help you tone your neck and could relieve facial palsy as well.

10. Kissing burns calories. I told you, it’s a workout – and no gym membership is needed either. A passionate kiss that lasts for at least 20 seconds can burn 2-3 calories per minute. Let’s not obsess on math, but you can be sure that a nice long kissing session can help you burn some of that raw brownie off that you are munching on (wait, I am munching on some raw brownies… hmm, I may need some kissing…).

It seems like kissing may just be one of the healthiest activities for all. What are you waiting for? Go find the love of your life and start kissing!

What if you haven’t found your significant other yet, are taking a break from the dating game for now or are too old for spin-the-bottle? For one, you can NEVER be too old for spin-the-bottle. Second, even loving and friendly kisses on the cheek can lead to amazing health benefits, helping you feel good in mind, body and soul. Find a friend or a family member and give them a big kiss.

If you are still not up for kissing, hugging is also a beautiful energy exchange of love and care.

Hugging has some powerful health benefits as well:

1. Hugging may lower your heart rate.

2. It may reduce stress, anxiety, anger and fear by stimulating oxytocin.

3. It may lower depression and increases happiness through the release of dopamine.

4. It may decrease loneliness and depression through the release of serotonin.

Can’t Afford A Life Coach For 2016? Read These 10 Books For Your Best Year Ever

By Kat Gal

Are you ready for a change?

But you have NO idea where to begin and can’t afford a life or health coach…

I hear you! Coaching can be expensive. Sure, people say that if you really want it, you will find a way to pay for it. There is some truth to that. But I completely understand if you simply don’t feel that you are in the position to pay thousands of dollars for a good coach and the good news is, you may not have to.

Transformation is within your reach. You’d be surprised at the powerful potential you already have within you to make these changes you desire, a reality!

One word: READ.

Here at FitLife.tv, we are committed to bringing you the best and the latest tips and tools to help keep your body, mind and soul healthy. And we’re excited to guide and support you on your personal journey.

The bookstores are FULL of books on health, healing, personal development and spirituality. It can be difficult to find the books that will be worth your while given so many choices.

That’s why we are giving you a list of the top 10 books you absolutely MUST read to have the best year ever (be sure to read to the end for some additional BONUS tips)!

#10. Stephen A. Covey: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Powerful Lessons in Personal Change.

This book is considered a classic in the world of personal development. It offers a holistic, integrated and principle-centered approach that you can use to solve both your personal and professional challenges. The book offers principles on living with integrity, honesty and human dignity and advice on how to find and take advantage of opportunities that create true change.

#9. Debbie Ford: The Dark Side of the Light Chasers.

Light doesn’t exist without darkness. If you stand on the sun, you will see your shadow. This is the same for personal development and healing: the more you live your life in the light, the more you will notice your shadow as well. When you see your shadow self, you may get sad, angry, or ashamed and want to reject or stop this ‘bad quality’ or ‘ugly part’ of you.

This book explains that your shadow self is just as an important part of you as all other parts. It helps you to learn to accept, to embrace and to love your shadow self.

#8. Louise L. Hay: You Can Heal Your Life.

Louis Hay is the uncrowned queen of affirmations and healing ourselves with our minds. If you are interested in creating health and happiness in your life using the power of your thoughts, you absolutely have to read this book. You Can Heal Your Life can help you learn how to reprogram your brain to heal yourself and to heal your life.

#7. Geneen Roth: Women, Food, and God.

Despite its title, this books should be read by everyone: women and men equally. No, this is not only for those with serious eating disorders or food addictions, but for anyone who eats.

This book explains how the way you eat is related to and, in fact, is inseparable with  your core beliefs about yourself and your life. Your relationship with food is the mirror of your life: your feelings about yourself, your relationships, love, anger, trauma, happiness, sadness, fear and even God or the Universe. This book provides a lot of ‘aha moments’ and can help you to fall in love with yourself and food again.

#6. Dan Harris: 10% Happier.

10% Happier shows you the way to happiness. The steps were discovered by Dan Harris through his personal experiences. The message of the book is that it only takes 10% to create a true difference in your life.

This is an especially awesome book if you are interested in mindfulness and meditation, as these are the main tools Dan Harris is sharing with you. Even if you are skeptical, I bet that once you read it, you will be a convert and start meditating regularly.

#5. Gail Brenner: The End of Self-Help: Discovering Peace and Happiness Right at the Heart of Your Messy, Scary, Brilliant Heart.

This title is not simply a “buy this book” catchy title, but truly sums up the book. As a psychologist and coach, Gail Brenner searched for happiness everywhere for endless years, until she finally found it right in front of her.

This book explains that you don’t need to fix yourself, you are wonderful as you are and it helps you to accept yourself the way you are. So what’s the big secret? It is not a big secret, actually. As many leaders and healers have said before, being in the present moment is your answer and your way to happiness. This book helps show you how to get there.

#4. Viktor Frankl: Man’s Search for Meaning.

Man’s Search for Meaning is not a self-help book and not even a spiritual teaching book like most of the books on this list. Viktor Frankl was a psychiatrist and also a Holocaust survivor. The book is not only about his personal struggle during his imprisonment in Auschwitz, but about our universal need for meaning and purpose in life. He believes that he and those who’ve survived Auschwitz or other concentration camps didn’t do so because they were healthier, fitter, or stronger, but because they simply found meaning in their existence while imprisoned as well as a purpose for their life.

If you are reading this, you are likely not suffering such terror as Frankl did, but his research findings, theories and messages are universal. Reading this book can truly help you understand why true meaning and purpose is so important for you to live a happy, healthy and meaningful life.

#3. Don Miguel Ruiz: The Four Agreements.

This book is absolutely non-negotiable. I have never met a single person whose life wasn’t changed by reading it. This book explains how your self-limiting beliefs can take away your joy and lead to unnecessary suffering. Following these powerful, yet simple steps, your life can transform and you can experience more freedom, happiness and love than ever before.

#2. Eckhart Tolle: The Power of Now.

This is a beautiful and intriguing book on the beauty of being in the present moment. It encourages you to leave your analytical mind behind, forget about your ego, your false created self, your masks and your fears. By being in the present you can be connected to your true essence, our collective being and life as it truly is. The present can only be beautiful and this books explains it so well.

#1. Elizabeth Gilbert: Big Magic.

Elizabeth Gilbert became famous through her popular book, Eat, Pray, Love where she shared her personal self-discovery after a painful divorce through traveling to Italy, India and Bali. Big Magic is very different. It is not a personal story, but more of a guide. It is also not a how-to self help book and is much more than just inspiration.

For me, it is the Bible of a Creative Soul. I am not joking: it can help you face all your fear, doubts and concerns, allows no BS or excuses, but instead inspires and motivates you to go for your dreams NOW. It is not only for artists. Everyone is a creative soul – yes, that includes you, my dear. Life is a creative work of art and you are alive, aren’t you?

BONUS TIPS:

If you hiring a life coach is not in your budget right now, you can still:

  • Buy a guide for a coaching program. For those who are on a tight budget, I have released the guide to my popular 21-day mind-body-soul transformational cleanse program.

Though you will not be receiving bonus gifts, bonus booklets, community support and coaching support from me, you will be receiving the detailed program guide that participants normally get. If you are ready to change your life, this is all you need to get started.

  • Start journaling. There are so many ways to journal. You can write morning pages – 3 pages of reflection in the morning. You can write gratitude journals, jotting down what you are grateful for every day. You can also use guided questions, journaling prompts and other journaling techniques.

365 Days of Journaling is an incredibly affordable journaling ebook with 365 + 1 journaling prompts covering 13 areas of your life to bring about true transformation.

  • Join a group coaching program. Group coaching still costs more than a book, but is much cheaper than a one-to-one coaching program. You will also be part of a supportive community, which is priceless.

Fitlife offers Transformational Coaching Packages. And some pretty incredible supplements to help you on your journey. Check out the store for more info.

  • Keep your body healthy. If your body is healthy, your mind is happy too. Drink your green juice and eat your greens. If you are too busy, the Organifi Green Juice Powder is a great option. It literally take 10 seconds to mix it up – and it tastes SO good!

While you are at it, take some probiotics for gut health – Biotic Balance is a good choice with 50 Billion (with a B!) good bacteria! Don’t forget to exercise and get enough sleep either, those are both necessary for your health as well.

Do you have any book recommendations or lifestyle tips for those who are seeking more health, happiness and balance in their lives? What do you do to keep your body healthy? I am personally powered by Organifi. How about you? Share below, let’s swap ideas!

7 Documentaries That Will Change Your Life

Written by: Kat Gal

After not having Netflix for a few years, my husband and I gifted ourselves with a new membership this year.

This definitely holds the dangers of binge-watching some of my favorite TV reruns! Like Gilmore Girls (yep, I’m a fan!).

I bet you can relate.

There is, of course, a time and purpose for binging on your favorite series. I am not going to make you stop, don’t worry. But let’s face it: it is not so productive.

Thankfully, Netflix is full of some amazing documentaries that you can actually learn from! You CAN actually watch movies and call it EDUCATION!

Here is a list of 7 documentaries you MUST add to your Netflix queue this year.

If you don’t have Netflix, you can find most of these documentaries on Youtube, Amazon Prime and other places online.

1. Food, Inc. is an absolute must-watch if you are interested in where your food is coming from. Food Inc. explores the complexities of agriculture, how food companies control the food market and what your food is really made out of.

2. Fat, Sick, Nearly Dead is one of the best documentaries out there on juicing. Joe Cross, an Australian man living on the Standard Australian Diet (not better than the Standard American one) found himself overweight, dealing with various chronic illness and walking a road towards his deathbed. Wanting to live healthy, he set a goal to go on a 90-day juice-feast while traveling around the United States talking to Americans about their eating habits, their health challenges and the benefits of juicing.

Eventually, Joe lost weight, healed his ailments and became a well-known juicing advocate. His second movie, Fat, Sick, Nearly Dead 2 is also on Netflix.

3. Fed Up is one of the most recent documentaries on the Standard American Diet and the effects of food on your body. This film has actually made it to mainstream theaters, reaching the general public who may not be searching for documentaries on holistic health just yet. The film explores underlying reasons behind the ever-growing childhood obesity epidemic and talks in detail about the dangers of processed sugar.

4. Happy explores the secrets of happiness. Everyone wants to be happy, yet not all of us are. Maybe you are searching for more happiness in your life right now. So why are some countries so happy, while others are more depressed with high rates of suicide? Why is there such a need to know the secrets of happiness and why doesn’t it come naturally to all of us? This beautiful documentary brings you all the answers you are seeking.

5. Supersize Me is a classic documentary made over a decade ago and was one of the first documentaries made on the dangers of fast food and processed food. In this documentary, Morgan Spurlock goes on the McDonald’s diet for a few months and documents how his health and body weight changes over-time – for the worse.

6. Hungry for Change was created by the makers of the popular Food Matters. The documentary explores how our society eats food-like products instead of food, which is making us sick and overweight. It discusses the dangers of processed sugar and processed food. It goes into detail about how to create lasting health, weight loss and vibrancy.

7. The Secret is all about getting everything you want in life. It is not about a go-getter business attitude, but about an abundance mentality. The promise of the film is that you can have anything and everything you want – health, happiness, love, relationships, wealth, etc. – because the Universe has an abundant supply of it. Your mind is in control, all you need to do is to create an abundance mindset and learn to manifest your dreams. Guaranteed, this documentary will leave you inspired to create your best life yet.

If you are inspired to change your life, your health and your happiness levels after these documentaries – and you should be! – we are here to help YOU!

7 Ways To Attract More Positive Relationships

Get the mp3/podcast of this episode free on iTunes.

3-2-1

By Lindsay Sibson

It’s no secret – WHO you surround yourself with matters.

Motivational speaker and self-help guru Jim Rohn said, You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Whether it be your family, friends, romantic partners, or coworkers, who you come into contact with the most has an immense impact on how you feel, what you think and what you do.

To attract positive, supportive, loving, fun and happy relationships, embrace these 7 ways:

1. Love Yourself First: Your are and always should be the #1 person on your list of people you love. If you want to attract positive love in your life… you must BE positive love, which means loving yourself as you are. How well you really know yourself matters. Take the time to think about what makes you YOU. When you are your authentic self, you will attract authentic people into your life.

2. Don’t WORRY: The right person will come along at the right moment. Keep on keepin’ on and doing things that make you feel fulfilled, happy and vibrantly alive. Which leads to…

3. Cut Off Complaints: Complaining will do absolutely nothing in regards to moving you towards your goals and attracting positive relationships in your life. What it WILL do is attract other people that like complaining, resulting in negativity. It’s natural to vent every once once in awhile, but set boundaries to keep excessive complaining out of your life.

4. Acknowledge The Past: Yup, stuff happens. Your past makes up part of who you are, BUT by no means should you continue to live in it! Take those lessons learned and walk away. Healing from past injuries hurts, whether they are emotional, physical, or psychological – BUT, healing is necessary in order to move on and attract positive relationships.

5. Understand That Rejection Is Great: So the person didn’t call when they said they would or never called back. I have one word for you – NEXT! Whether someone is judging you based on your looks or they don’t respect your time, that person has NO reason to continue being in your life. A truly positive person will not only be clear with how he/she feels, but will also back it up with his/her actions. He/she will also want to get to know the REAL you (crazy morning hair and breath and all).

6. Don’t Let Anyone Take Your Power: Stand up for what you believe in. Once again, YOU have your own opinions, thoughts and feelings – don’t allow your potential partners to influence your perception of yourself or take that power away.

7. Love EVERY Moment: Like attracts like. Therefore, positive people attract positive people. Learn how to see the good in every person, place and thing… and when faced with challenging times (which you will be at some point), look for the lesson or blessing in every occasion.

The 7 ways described above are not overnight solutions to finding the relationship of your dreams. It takes consistent action and effort on your part to embody the characteristics of a positive person.

But then… “someday… someone will walk into your life and make you realize why it never worked out with anyone else.” – unknown

4 Ways To Get Rid of Anxiety For Good

Get the mp3/podcast of this episode free on iTunes.

3-2-1

Written by: Anthony Cocco

Anxiety – oh that dreadful word! For the unfortunate, anxiety is a constant daily battle. With so many stressors being thrown our way each day, it can be easy adopt self-induced, negative narratives, which usually result in feelings of ‘doom and gloom’ instead of appreciating this beautiful life we have been blessed to experience.

When it comes to releasing these negative emotions, it’s important to give yourself the time and dedication it takes – and commit – to following through on whatever healthy remedy works best for you to alleviate these feelings. And keep in mind that simple can be better.  Although anxiety can feel extremely overwhelming, understand that sometimes all it takes is a slight deviation from your normal thought process to swap your negative thoughts that hold you prisoner in your own mind, to something more uplifting and positive. Chances are, you will surprise – and likely impress – yourself with the results.

As a former migraine sufferer, I struggled with anxiety for years, but I can say to you with a humble heart that I am now free. I am able to live life with clarity and possess a nimbleness of mind that has allowed me to chase my dreams, which is exciting and rewarding. It has been a wonderful experience, which is why I wanted to share with you the top 4 ways I have been able to get rid of anxiety and take control of my life for good.

Royal_relax-300x200Learn how to relax

When anxiety filled my life, two methods gave me tremendous hope; meditation and breathing exercises. I can honestly say that meditation saved my life. It helped slow me down and allowed me to live in the present moment. It helped get me in-tune with my mind and spirit and helped me sort through the thoughts that were wreaking havoc on my body and my spirit. Meditation allowed me to regain control and re-write my narrative.

Breathing exercises are another fantastic way to decompress. You can perform them anytime, any where and they only take a few minutes a day. The key is to use your abdominal muscles to perform these exercises (breathing from your belly). It also encourages full exchange of oxygen, giving your cells the much deserved air they require. By doing this, you are stabilizing blood pressure and reducing your heartbeat. Harvard Medical School has a great article that you can find here.

By practicing these simple techniques daily, you are able to bring a sense of balance back into your life and it helps to reminds you to be aware of what is going on in your minds and our environment. When anxiety arises, your improved awareness helps you assess whether you should allow yourself to entertain the thoughts that triggered your normal anxiety response. Always remember to relax with a purpose every day, this simple tip will bring dramatic changes to your normal coping mechanisms during stressful moments.

Healthy_foods_making_you_fa-300x183Healthy diet

Maintaining a healthy diet not only improves your weight, it also has a dramatic affect on your mood as well. Having a diet high in refined sugar, processed foods and sodium only feeds your anxiety. Consuming too much caffeine also triggers agitation, which in turn leads to anxiety. This is a response that is often physically felt in your body, yet it affects your mind as well. Alcohol and nicotine are also notorious for triggering anxiety.

In order to appropriately battle your chronic anxiety symptoms, you must consume whole foods and slowly cut out the culprits that entertain your state of anxiety. I would suggest limiting your intake of processed foods and incorporating more raw fruits and vegetables, raw nuts, whole grains and quality proteins that come from free-range poultry and fresh, wild-caught seafood.

vitamins11-300x225Get a boost with supplements

Some supplements to keep in mind when balancing a proper diet are magnesium (for enzyme functioning), B vitamins (to ensure proper nerve functioning, especially in the brain), zinc (maintains optimal immune responses) and L-theanine (amino acid to help increase dopamine and GABA). These supplements help keep the body in check and reduce fluctuations in the hormones that induce anxiety.

Exercise

One of my top remedies for calming my anxiety is exercising. When you combine exercise and the other 3 approaches I mentioned above, you can then reduce your anxiety indefinitely.

exercise-a-z-comp-300x183One of the best tips I can share is this: after a fairly stressful day, take a light jog outside, or at the gym. Anything to get your blood circulating will do, even a brisk walk for 20-30 minutes helps reduce the piled up stress in your body. A plus side to this is when you exercise, your body release endorphins, which are hormones that make you feel great! I am aware that some days you may feel too tired to muster the energy to exercise, but if you can push through that for even 20 minutes each day, I guarantee that you will not regret it. On top of the release of your endorphins, your body also reduces cortisol and adrenaline, which are the hormones in your body that cause you to feel stressed in the first place.

You can rest assured that if you can incorporate relaxation techniques, maintain a healthy diet, get a boost with supplements and have a consistent exercise routine, you can reduce your anxiety significantly and potentially, rid yourself of it altogether.

If any of these tips work for you, or if you have other tips to share, please comment below. I would love to hear from you!

5 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Anxiety

3-2-1

Written By: Lindsay Sibson

My imagination is always running wild and dreaming of new business ideas, books to write, experiences to have and adventures to go on.

It’s all fun and games until my active mind goes awry and anxiety creeps in, bringing with it worry, nervousness, self-doubt and an overall feeling of uneasiness. I’m sure you know exactly what I mean!

My mind erupts with question after question that pick apart every aspect of my life, from my career, to my relationships; and it seems that once that one little thought creeps in, it snowballs and the next thing I know, I’m one big ball of anxiety!

While I have a family history with anxiety, it wasn’t until a few years back that I personally understood what this whole anxiety thing was all about.

I quit a comfortable job at a school because I was burned out and figured I would easily find something else. Oh how wrong I was!

With no income and increasing debt, I felt like a total failure. When I was finally offered a contract with a financial services company, I pursued it, even though my gut was giving me all the signs that it wasn’t a good fit.

The new role kicked my butt! I was crying on the daily and the butterflies in my stomach seemed like they were supercharged. I seriously dreaded going to the office every day. The reflection in the mirror was NOT the happy go lucky, free spirited girl I identified myself with any longer.

I was desperate for relief and went to the doctor because that is what you do when you don’t feel well, right? All I left with was a prescription for anti-anxiety medication, which I took for a few days before realizing I was pursuing the wrong solution. I needed change and I needed it fast. So I quit my job to passionately pursue the most important role of all – ME! My health; my mindset; my well-being; my dreams.

However, my ongoing tango with anxiety didn’t end there. Even now that I am living my dream of traveling the world, I still face anxious feelings. What’s more important nowadays is how I handle those anxious feelings and the actions I take to successfully help me keep my anxiety to a minimum.

Here are 5 natural ways to get rid of anxiety and live your best life, right now!

o-NO-ALCOHOL-facebook-300x2001.STOP DRINKING ALCOHOL. I love red wine. I associate it with relaxing and unwinding after a long day of work or adventure. To me, it is a liquid hug that calms me down. But since we live in a world of duality, with the good comes the not so good. I’ve had plenty of nights where I was socializing and indulged a bit too much. The next day, not only was I hung over, but I had this inner turmoil of negative feelings. I refer to them as “The Second Day Scaries”- a feeling of an impending doom. It’s AWFUL!

It wasn’t until I cut alcohol out completely during a juice cleanse that I realized how much it was contributing to my anxious feelings. Most recently, I decided to do a “Dry January” and after two weeks of not consuming alcohol, I had an inner peace and overall calmness that I had not felt in a long time.

Journal-Writing-Diary-300x2012. PURGE IT. Get those feelings out! Put that pen to paper and journal it. Talk to someone you trust regarding how you are feeling. Meditate. Do what you can that resonates with you to purge your anxious feelings.

I participated in a tradition in the Canary Islands. There is a night where you write all your worries on a paper and then burn it in a beach bonfire. It signifies releasing your feelings and starting anew. It felt uplifting to see all my worries go up in flames and out of my mind.

Follow up the purge with writing at least five things you are grateful for. Having an attitude of gratitude will help immensely in keeping your focus on what is meaningful and aid in producing plenty of happy feelings.

take-action-300x2033. TAKE ACTION. If there is something unsettling in your life (job, financial struggle, relationships, health concerns), by all means, start by taking one step in the direction you want to go. When your head hits that pillow every night, do you want to be thinking about how frustrated you are, or would you rather be able to pat yourself on the back because you took action and are one step closer to achieving your goal? The choice is yours. There are many studies out there about the power of creating a plan and having written goals. Carve out some time and have a date with yourself to write down what it is that YOU want. Check in each and every morning to plan out how you are going to make that happen!

fruits-and-veg-The-Beach-House-Goa-300x2254. EAT KIND FOODS. Just like minimizing alcohol is key in reducing and eliminating anxiety, eating a healthy and fresh diet is equally as important. Kind foods are foods that are made with love and positive energy, such as fruits and vegetables. To evolve into something that is delicious to consume, these foods need sunshine, water, attention/care and time. Hence why these types of foods make us feel great! On the other hand, if we consume foods that are spit out by a factory in thirty seconds, they fail at providing the energy our body needs.

A simple rule to follow: It is comes from a plant – EAT IT. If it was made in a plant – AVOID IT.

5. CONSUME KIND INFORMATION. Imagine a glass that has dirt in it. You are not able to dump the glass to clean it – so what do you do to remove the dirt? One option is you can keep adding clean water until the dirt is flushed out.think-positive-300x200

Your mind is like that glass and you have the option of filling it up every day with either dirty OR clean information. The more “clean information” you consume, the more clear and positive your mind becomes. Reading and listening to inspirational and uplifting material is one way to do so. Anxiety comes in many shapes, forms and sizes. This advice is strictly from what I have personally experienced in my life. If you are having difficulty with anxiety, please don’t go at it alone. Consult a health professional, or someone you trust.

At first, I had to put my ego aside because I felt like I should be able to “just deal with it”. The more I opened up about it to loved ones, the more I realized I was not alone in my quest of searching for inner peace. We are all faced with various stresses in life that can put a strain on our health and well-being. However, if you want to improve your personal situation, it is up to you to search and find a solution that fits your needs. And I know you can do it!
