The latest report by Gerardo Ceballos from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and Paul R. Ehrlich from Stanford University et al, which came out late last week, outlines how modern humans are now responsible for accelerated species loss. This heralds the era of thesixth mass extinction.” The report details the rate of extinction for species in the 20th century is up to 100 times higher than it would have been without man’s impact. The scientists who conducted the research have been careful to be conservative. The real rate may be many times higher.

The Guardian was one of the few mainstream media outlets to cover the story, stating that the scientists have been deliberately conservative – they’re well aware of the dangers of crying wolf on a topic of such importance, and where passions run so high. For a start, they limit themselves to the best-studied group of organisms, the vertebrates. Then, they take a high estimate of background extinctions to compare with, to make the modern figures as undramatic as possible. And then, they either consider only those animals known to be extinct (the “highly conservative” scenario), or they add in those extinctions in the wild that are likely to have happened, but are not yet verified.(1) The study mentions that humans will most probably be one of the first cabs off the rank in this extinction process, as we depend completely on the natural systems for our survival.

1001 Life Hack Tips To Get You Started!

saveyourselfWhen there is so much bad stuff going on around the planet (which humanity is primarily responsible for), it can become daunting to even consider coming up with solutions, leaving one feeling helpless and impotent. You have to stop and think for a moment, what am I doing to help save the planet and myself? Does this cause a bit of uncomfortable paralysis? Does the thought, “Well I am just one person on a planet of 7 billion people and I don’t think I can make an impact,” cross your mind?

I recently came across a brilliant little guide book for helping you to remember what you can do to make a difference. So I contacted the author, Judy Wong Dopperpuhl, who wrote “Save Yourself & Save The Planet – 1001 Green & Fun Life Hack Tips.” The reason this little book is so important is because as humans, we all get trapped and caught up in our own lives and can easily forget that certain things, when done collectively, can add up to real change. In my previous life I was heavily involved in performance coaching and getting the best out of teams. One thing I learnt from early on in my career was that you have to “Walk the Talk”… that is, you have to “practice what you preach.” A great way of doing this is by embedding the small things first.

Start Small Can Mean Big

Judy believes we can make a huge difference by doing lots of small things. It is kind of like the “Pay it Forward” movement philosophy. If we all start doing lots of little things, then momentum builds and shifts the overall consciousness and changes behaviours. Before you know it, everyone else is doing lots of really great things too, and then big change starts to happen. Judy believes we are living in a magical time of immense opportunities and a breathtaking consciousness shift in humanity. Yes, right now. People all over this beautiful planet are waking up to taking their power back and reconnecting more than ever by hacking technology. Judy has racked her brain and numerous other resources to put together 1001 things you can do to get started to make change… these are just a few ideas she offers.

Food / Eating Habits

1. Adopt a vegan lifestyle. Big animal agriculture is not a sustainable resource and devastates our planet. Focus on a whole food, organic, plant based diet and give up all processed food and drink. Think local and support organic farmers and stop supporting companies with heavy carbon footprints that continue to rape our planet.

Shopping

2. Invest in sturdy re-usable shopping bags and produce bags. Carry them with you in your car and backpack at all times. Shop in the bulk section when possible. Just say no to all paper or plastic.

3. Always carry your own stainless steel water bottle and coffee/tea mug, even when you travel. Consider purchasing a portable re-usable water filtration system. Stop purchasing bottled water and drinks.

Around the Home

4. Make having a chemical free home your new green mantra. You can inexpensively and simply clean your home with white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, salt, baking soda, and citrus juice. For non-toxic DIY laundry detergent there are numerous sites giving guidance and recipes online.

 Health Care

5. DIY beauty care is easier, simpler, and better for you and the planet. Many beauty products are produced unsustainably, not to mention tested on animals and very harmful to you.  There are plenty of websites that can give you tips and recipes for making your own lotions and potions that will save you boatloads of money and keep you much healthier and more vibrant. Take a step back and analyze what is in your medicine cabinet and beauty care regime. Why not make your own non-toxic toothpaste with just baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and peppermint oil? Instead of toxic shampoos and conditioners, why not use baking soda and white vinegar? And to re-hydrate your skin, why not use coconut oil? Did you know you can even use coconut oil as a sexual lubricant?

Minimize Your Life

6. Less is the new black. Unplug from the matrix and break it down into realizing you are no longer a consuming machine. Stop giving into living beyond your means and let your true self emerge from this downward spiral of materialism. Be unique and create our own branding, image, and iconoclastic aura of confidence. Be bold in embracing the repair; fix; embrace a hip upcycle manifesto. Remember it is time to be a conscious consumer.

Reduce and Reuse

7. Treat all resources like gold. There is no such thing as “throwing something away.” Make it a goal to produce less waste. Re-use packaging for gift wrapping; save glass jars and bottles for food storage and gifts; compost; get creative and think outside the box.

Growing

8. Start your own vegetable garden and learn about how permaculture can save our planet. Maximize your growing space and don’t use pesticides. Create a food forest haven for you, your family and community, and help attract bees, birds, and beneficial insects. Learn how to propagate plants, and plant lots and lots of native trees, shrubs and perennials.

Transport

9. Opt for public transportation or ride your bike. Consider getting rid of your car.

Life

10. Live your dreams. Remember, true peace starts with you. Remember you don’t need a lot of stuff to make you feel happy. Happiness comes from within, community and living without compromise.

Why You Should Question Everything

mindset

Written By Mike Sygula
From The Mind Unleashed

Throughout our history, on every level in any area of life there always has been some kind of manipulation aiming at achieving self-centered goals and often corrupting official systems. This behavior reflects the selfishness of human nature. It affects everyone without exception in every way. This is why we should always question everything we are told.

In this article I will point out a few examples of this tendency.

Media

I remember that during 2010 I used to watch BBC news every day for the whole summer, meanwhile I would read the news online, often from alternative news sites. I started noticing how frequently vital global issues were ignored by the BBC. One of those stories was about Russian wildfires. 2010 was the hottest summer in Russia ever recorded, it got so bad that they stopped exporting grain as millions of hectares were destroyed.  Diplomatic staff were evacuated from several foreign embassies in Moscow including Canada and Poland’s. What was funny is that the BBC did not report this very much, I think they only mentioned the droughts and wildfires once during the whole period of this crisis. Why was such an important issue like this not widely covered?

I had never really thought about this back then. Does the mainstream media have any hidden agenda when they publish their news? How impartial and objective is their reporting? Why are some very important issues ignored while other trivial topics are on the main cover?

The truth is that the media is a powerful weapon and has been used many times as an instrument of propaganda but the problem is that most people do not realise this. One notable example is the story of Amber Lyon, a former CNN journalist, whose documentary on Bahrain has been censored by CNN. In this video she gives her account of what happened:

Governments

The media is just one of many areas of life which we should be sceptical about. It is also very important to question the official process of politics and government. In many countries, especially those leading the economic league, the main goal is to govern, dominate and manipulate the public, often by any means necessary.

For example, anyone who has invested any time into investigating the 9/11 attacks knows and understands that it was an event orchestrated by the American government. A typical argument from the uninformed will often be something like this: “Our own government would never kill our own people”. In fact, governments kill their citizens all the time,  sending troops to war (often fought over resources) is a case in point. But for those non-believers who still can’t comprehend that their own governments can do horrifying things to their own people, I suggest they watch these two short videos:

In both cases, citizens were used as guinea pigs, without any conscience or concern about human health whatsoever. The same applies to government organisations, no matter if this is the FDA, NASA or NSA, there is always a subterranean agenda hidden from the public . Just recently we have learned from Edward Snowden, that the NSA, which is supposed to protect and serve its citizens, is actually spying on them. Think about how many similar cases which might be happening all the time. Most of these will never be discovered as the system is intelligently designed to keep them secret.

UFO cover-up

In 1947, the United States Air Force issued a press release that a “flying disk” had been recovered near Roswell, New Mexico. This press release was quickly withdrawn and officials subsequently claimed that it was a weather balloon. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to recognise the difference between a weather balloon and a flying disk. There is a tremendous amount of evidence supporting the claim that we have been visited by extraterrestrials, people who have devoted themselves to researching this topic understand that. This ranges from historical records to countless videos and statements issued by leading authorities, including former astronauts and top officials. Isn’t it obvious that if, say, a UFO crashed somewhere in the US (or any other country), the government would prefer to keep this secret in order to examine the technology and prevent panic? You wouldn’t want other nations to steal the technology, that goes without saying. We shouldn’t forget that admitting the existence of aliens could have profound implications for religious establishments.

In 1938 on October 30th an estimated 6 million Americans listened to the “War of the Worlds” radio broadcast, which described an invasion from Mars. It created panic and around 1.7 million people took it seriously. It caused suicidal fear and chaos. Residents in the small village of Grovers Mill, New Jersey shot holes in their city water tower, thinking that it was a Martian ship. Some sources claim that the whole event was an experiment to assess the reaction of the public to unexpected emergencies and this was later published in the book: “The Invasion from Mars: A study in the psychology of panic”.

I believe that very few people challenge the conventional wisdom, we are being brainwashed and live in a hypnotic trance. We binge on mindless entertainment and are bombarded by pointless trivia which distracts us from seeing the big picture.

In many cases, if the US government is intervening in some conflicts, their motives are far from philanthropic. There is always an agenda and if there is no interest then there is no engagement. The news that the public is allowed to hear is one thing, the real reasons are another.

Obviously, concealing the presence of extraterrestrials brings more benefits than informing society , that is why it would be better to keep the public blissfully ignorant . And we should never forget that every government, corporation or public institution is run by human beings. People in power will often be corruptible, seeking to retain their influence and enjoy the benefits this brings. They will want to hold onto this even if this means that others will suffer. We have seen that throughout history, over and over again.

Signs You Are A Facebook Junkie:

The increased use of social networking, especially among young people, is a clear example of how easily we become addicted to new technology.

These statements are categorical, researchers say one of the negatives to overusing social networks is social isolation. This occurs when a person stimulates their virtual relationships instead of developing their personality in a real, physical environment. This situation is reflected by the extreme anxiety of some regarding their likes, posts, and status, being highly sensitive and overly conscious about what’s going on in the virtual world, with Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr contents their top priorities. They prefer to interact with virtual friends more than real people.

Another symptom of social media addiction with negative effects is that a person will experience acceptance on these networks, because they are designed to emphasize the positives in life, the bright side that is socially accepted that we feel comfortable showing. This can result in denial of our defects and the defects of others, creating relationships based on sensation-seeking or immediate satisfaction.

Those hooked on social networking continually update their profiles and pictures and are very conscious of comments and likes, and are more narcissistic and insecure than average, according to a recent study.
Researchers at the University of York, Canada, reveals how networking is the perfect retreat for people who meet these criteria, as it allows them to establish a large number of ‘hollow’ friends without having to maintain a real relationship with them. The findings show there is a positive relationship between levels of narcissism or low self-esteem detected by the test, and the number of times per day that students update on social networks, according to experts this is not a surprising fact, narcissism can be rooted in lack of self-esteem.

Finally, the research, which involved equal numbers of men and women, also showed how men are more likely to review the comments on your profile, while women perused uploaded pictures.

Symptoms of A Social Media Addict (Facebook junkie):

1- You are online all the time. No matter where you are or what you’re doing, you contribute live postings and comments about your day, your posts, and other posts. You don’t pay attention to the people that are with you, family or friends.

2- Walking or driving while looking at a mobile phone. Often the social media addict won’t realize he is crossing streets, driving, or acting strangely because of their addiction. Studies prove texting while driving can be fatal, dangerous for yourself and others,, maybe more than driving while intoxicated.

3- Posting everything that happens to you. See if this is familiar: the first time a friend eats sushi, he takes a selfie with the sushi, just to inform us. Sometimes people cut themselves, they’ll post a picture before bandaging. They assume others are interested in every detail of their lives.

4- Sleeping less. Do you procrastinate bedtime to be online?
