Is there a connection between your gut and your brain?

How does your gut relate to your mind?

You’ve probably heard me talk about the fact that 95% of your serotonin – the “happy” chemical – is actually in your gut.

mm1That means that the health of your gut strongly affects your mood, not just your digestion and immunity. It’s got a big job!

Cause and Effect

We’ve all been there.

You wake up and stub your toe. You curse and hop around, mad that it happened.  It’s amazing how that simple act can cause you to begin thinking negative thoughts. That one small act has the potential to cause your day to unfold in an unsettling way.

But YOU have the option to choose differently. To instead decide that it’s not going to affect you or your mood.

That decision becomes much harder when your gut is a wreck because of this important little chemical – serotonin. And that’s why I want you to understand the importance of your gut health as it relates to every single aspect of your mind and body.

Perception Is Tricky

When something comes up in your life – even something as minor as stubbing your toe out of bed, it’s easy to let that get to us. If we let it.

Now this may be a bold statement, but I believe that things show up in our existence due to our perception of our circumstances and the world around us. Not necessarily due to the cold hard facts. What’s truly going on.

If you are committed to living in a state of joy and abundance, don’t you want to be able to do so on a daily basis with little effort? Wouldn’t it be amazing to just BE that way and FEEL that way every day… instead of the all too common seesaw of emotions that people are facing on a daily basis?

It’s possible. It starts with you. It starts with deciding what you want, deciding how you want to view the world and your circumstances – and taking action.

A Story

Have you ever encountered a person that just seems to be angry all the time? You think it might just be their personality… or maybe their gut is just a mess causing them to find the worst in everything. That serotonin I tell ya!

I knew a person like this.

Every time I would see him, he was anxious and moody and seemed constantly irritated. He just seemed to be angry all the time.

But then one day, I walked into the gym and there he was, smiling and radiant!

So I asked him, “Jaxson, what happened? What have you been doing?”

He told me that he started with a 5 day juice cleanse and realized how important the role of proper nutrition really was. And he began to clean up his diet!

This guy used to drink multiple sodas a day! Now he was JUICING!

He was feeling incredible – and it showed!

Now he’s the one poking fun at people who seem angry all the time and he’s become one of the happiest people that I know. And it all started with real food. He decided he wanted something better and he took action.

It’s not always an easy transition either. But you’re worth the effort. Just remember that. And you don’t have to do it alone.

The Solution

When you learn how to better support your internal body, and in this instance, your gut – using juicing and whole foods –  everything starts to change.

Instead of thinking about what to remove, I want you to focus on what to include! This is called “crowding in” and it’s powerfully effective.

Begin to:

1. Juice. This is of course a huge supporter to overall health as it feeds and fuels your body on a cellular level using a plethora of micronutrients. Most people are not getting the recommended dose of fruits and veggies each day. This makes it so much easier. And it tastes great!

2. Eat Fermented Foods. These are a great addition as well. They are loaded with probiotics, which are the healthy bacteria our guts thrive on. If you prefer a supplement form of probiotics, we formulated a multi-strain probiotic last year called Biotic Balance. You just need one daily. It’s what I use. Because let’s face it, when I am traveling it’s hard to get fermented foods everywhere. And I know you have a busy schedule too.

3. Drink More Water. Staying hydrated is critical to your overall health. Some #’s to consider:

  • Your blood is 92% water.
  • Your muscles are 75% water.
  • Your bones are 22% water.
  • Your brain is 75% water.
  • The average adult loses 10 cups of water a day by sweating, breathing, urinating and going number 2!

4. Change Your Perception. This is huge and really difficult for a lot of people. You may be one of those people and that’s okay! Your awareness alone is a great first step to change that and begin to upgrade your thoughts.
